Did you Know? The thistle is the national emblem of Scotland

The legend say that an Army of King Haakon of Norway, intent on conquering the Scots landed at the Coast of Largs at night to surprise the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. A sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the enemies trod on the prickly plant. His painful cry roused the sleeping warriors who duly vanquished the invader and adopted the thistle as their national symbol.

Of course, there is not a shred of evidence to support this account, but it certainly makes a good story.
